Final Fundraising

A huge thank you to both our Paintball team (who raised €650) and our Skydive team (who raised €2100), great work guys.

We are delighted to say that we have not only met the target we set ourselves of recruiting 20 child sponsors for the Mt Everest Primary School, but we actually have 27 sponsors signed up to date which equates to over 10% of the current pupils!

This is an incredible response and it will have a profoundly positive impact on the children and their families and indeed the wider Kitandwe community for many years to come (I should point out however that there are still children in need w

INVITE 'Everest - to the top'

Everest - to the top:

Ian is putting on an Everest slide show and presentation of his journey to the top of Mount Everest. He is keen to point out that this stand alone event is not a fundraiser for our charity. This is sure to be a fascinating insight into his Everest journey and will be of interest to many.

Mt Everest Primary School Opens

On Monday 16th March 2009 Graham Kinch and Ian Taylor officially opened the Mt Everest Primary School in Kitandwe Uganda. Graham and Ian climbed Mt Everest in the spring of 2008 to raise money for the Kitandwe school project in partnership with the Irish charity Fields of Life.

The Final Countdown

On March 14th Graham Kinch and Ian Taylor, will fly out to Uganda. Graham and Ian climbed Mt Everest in the spring of 2008 to raise money for the Kitandwe school project in partnership with the Irish charity Fields of Life.

Dropping In

We are excitedly counting down the last couple of weeks before we fly out to Uganda on the 14th March for the official opening of the Mt Everest Kitandwe School on the 16th March. We will of course update you on this closer to the time.

Between now and then however we are doing our last fundraising push and to this end we have our Skydive on the 8th March.

The starting whistle sounds but the finish-line is in sight

We were delighted to welcome Keith Mutabazi from the Fields of Life office in Kampala to Ireland recently. Keith extended a very warm welcome to us when we were in Uganda just over a year ago and it was great to see him again.

Schools of thought and thoughts of school

Things are progressing nicely with the school in Kitandwe as you can see from the photos and even since these were taken roofing of the first block has begun, so thank you to Keith in Fields of Life Kampala for sending these on.

As we previously mentioned the general rule of thumb with Everest is that it takes about 6 months for the body to recover.

Excavation on school complete

We are delighted to announce that excavation on the school site in Kitandwe has been completed and now building has commenced. See photos.

Recovery

We are slowly but surely settling back into life at sea-level.

My fractured rib is healing well.  I also sprained my ankle on the trek out and so have been going to the physio about that but it’s coming on nicely too. It’s been a great excuse not to do any training but with the marathon just 3 months away training for that started this week (and boy did it hurt!).
